The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter undoubtedly plays a significant role in the history of military aviation. This single-seat American low-flying fighter-bomber featured a powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine of over 2,000 horsepower, which allowed it to reach remarkable speeds, especially at higher altitudes, and offered exceptional operational flexibility. The P-47 was effective both as a fighter to provide escort for bombers and as a lethal aircraft for ground support and attack missions. Its airframe was extremely robust and heavily armed with eight Browning M2 12.7mm machine guns. In addition, it could be equipped with bombs and rockets, which increased its offensive capabilities. The P-47 has been successfully deployed by the United States since 1943 in various theaters of operations.
