Information about the original:

The LVT (short for Landing Vehicle Tracked) was developed to provide the United States Armed Forces, including the Army and Marines, with a suitable amphibious vehicle capable of providing a good level of protection. Often called the "Amtrac", they were used extensively in the Pacific theater against Japanese forces and in the last year of the war in the European theater. The LVT-4s in particular represented a significant improvement over previous versions. The redesigned design moved the engine to a mid-position, freeing up the rear of the vehicle to add a ramp to allow rapid loading and unloading of light vehicles or small-caliber artillery in support of landing forces. It was the most successful version with the largest number of vehicles produced.
