Original information:
Boulton-Paul Defiant became the only fighter aircraft with a shooting tower he had ever served at the RAF. It was built according to the philosophy that an airplane armed with a rifle tower, but which had been loaded with machine guns, should be capable of blending into bomber formation and causing confusion here, while also being able to protect itself from attacking enemy fighters.
During the first encounters with Defiante during the Battle of Britain in 1940, enemy pilots were caught off guard and Defiant was quite successful. Luftwaffe, however, soon discovered his weaknesses, especially the absence of any forward-moving cannons, and he was then reassigned to night missions where he led his knowledge better.
