Gradual improvements in ground defense and growing aircraft use during the war have led to a change of the Ju 87 to a fighter bomber. Version D has got a more powerful engine, a new aerodynamic cover and a stronger carapace. His new role was now mainly on the ground attack, which included anti-tank attacks with a 37mm cannon. In the spring of 1944, the work of rebuilding the Ju 87 D-3 into a devastating G-1 and G-2 tank finally began.
