Original and model information:

After a short but intensive training session, a group of top volunteer pilots who formed the new RAF No. 617 Squadron took off from RAF Scampton on the night of 16/17 May 1943 and embarked on the most daring bombing raid in history.


They were led by the enigmatic and inspirational Commander Guy Gibson, who is reported to have declared: "This squadron will either go down in history or be erased from history." Still, each of his men was determined to play his part in this historic aerial feat. Nineteen "special" Lancasters and their crews sent a message to the German nation that not even their propaganda ministers could conceal.
