Original information:
Short Stirling was the first four-engine British heavy bomber from World War II. The structure had a high wing, four engines and a cabin elevated above the fuselage. The aircraft kite was completely made of metal. Another feature that characterized the bomber was the impressive size of the chassis. The first bombers went to equip the Bomber Command Squadrons of the Royal Air Force from the end of 1940. Operational status was reached in January 1941 and the first war mission was dated in February 1941 against the logistics installation in Rotterdam. Stirling Mk. I was able to carry a considerable attack load of over 6,000 kg of bombs and I was armed with eight machine guns caliber 7.7 mm for defense. The direct successor to the Mk.I version was the Mk.III, equipped with new and improved Bristol Hercules XVI engines and improved defensive armament.
