Original information:
When Scharnhorst was launched in 1936, he and his sister ship Gneisenau became a brand new type of battle cruiser. From his home berth in Brest, he fought against allied convoys and posed a significant threat to merchant ships. In February 1942, he managed to escape the Allied bombing and through the Channel of the Channel penetrated north. On December 26, 1943, however, he was attacked at the northern coast of Norway and then sunk by British ship HMS Duke of York.
