Template information

Nordic is probably the most powerful German deep sea tug. Its home port is Heligoland. The ship serves as part of the German emergency towing concept. The construction and commissioning of the Nordic was carried out as a result of the Pallas shipwreck in 1998. In particular, the German Society for the Protection of the North Sea (SDN) together with many other conservation associations have been pushing for a new rescue tug ever since. Construction was taking place in Wolgast. Sea trials were conducted in October 2010. In them, the Nordic achieved a pulling force of 207 tonnes (around 2030 kN). The tug was completed on November 15, 2010. Nordic then replaced the outdated Oceanic at the turn of 2010/2011. This modern tug has a top speed of 20 knots and can reach all positions off the German coast within two hours. The ship is equipped with a so-called citadel, gas and explosion protection that allows Nordic to operate in highly flammable or hazardous environments.

Construction difficulty

Only experienced modelers with many years of construction experience, who have a complete overview of the issue and have mastered all the technologies and working procedures for building static model ships, should start building ship models with the construction difficulty Expert. It is also necessary to have experience with the processing of various materials, gluing, coloring and orientation in drawings and the determination of own construction procedures. The instructions here are only an orientation aid for the construction process.

These models are very comprehensive and detailed with almost museum quality, which are built by experienced modelers for months and even years.

We recommend to buy

For construction, we recommend buying tools, glue and paints.

Modeling tools and mat

Building model ships requires the right tools. We recommend an excellent set of Modelcraft tools for ship modelers (set of 12 pieces), or Modelcraft tools for modelers (set of 18 pieces). We also recommend the purchase of nylon clamps and indispensable modeling pins. We recommend a modeling mat for editing, precise cutting, gluing parts and also as table protection.

Glue and paint

When building model ships, we can encounter the gluing of various materials, such as wood, plastic, metal, foil, laminate, etc. Each material is glued with specific adhesives. Wood can be glued with Speedbond PVA dispersion glues, but it should not be used in places with more permanent water exposure. Epoxy adhesives are used for that case: Speed Epoxy II 4 min. Instant glue can be used for smaller areas. Plastics are glued together either with instant glue, and in the case of smaller parts, Roket Max instant glue thick. When it comes to large parts, such as a large hull deck, Roket UV glue 20g can be recommended. Metal and laminate can be glued with Epoxy glues.

We recommend acrylic enamel paints for coloring. Apply colors with quality brushes (flat brushes for surfaces, round brushes for details).

If you want to assemble the Nordic as a floating RC model, it is necessary to adapt the building and choose appropriate construction procedures. A drive set is designed to drive the model, which must be supplemented with electronics, a servo, an RC kit, a 12V battery and a charger.

Accessories for normal ship operation

For the normal operation of a functional RC model ship, you need a special grease for lubricating the ship's shafts. The special composition ensures the smooth operation of the shaft in the Teflon tube while maintaining the maximum service life of the components. DYNE4200, DYNE4201 greases are recommended

Special tools and tools from the Shesto company will come in handy for finishing work or routine maintenance, such as pliers, tweezers, files, screwdrivers and many others, which you can find on the website www.astramodel.cz/cz/katalog/naradi-c189.html
