Original information:
Folland Gnat was developed as a small, lightweight and well-manned fighter. In this role, however, he has never been accepted by RAF. After being converted to a two-seater, he found his place as a training aircraft, and his small size and excellent aerobatic skills made him a natural choice for the British Air Force aerobatic teams. The first one started with a great success with the Yellow Jacks band, followed by the famous Red Arrows group that Gnat had chosen as their first aircraft.
Gnat, created by WEW Petter, entered the RAF in 1962 and instructed the pilots to provide a perfect first experience with fast jet aircraft before seating into the Hunter or Lightning cabins used at the front. In the end, however, for Gnat, the final arrival of a new Hawk training aircraft, he was gradually dropped out of service at the end of the 1970s. However, a number of them have been transferred to private owners and still appear on a number of air shows.
