The modern Russian T-72 and T-80 tanks serve three-man crews: the commander, the driver and the artillery. Most Western armored vehicles, such as the US main battle tank M1 Abrams, need four crew members - the fourth tanker is a charger. For Russian tanks, this function is supported by an automatic charging system. This solution not only made it possible to reduce the size of the interior space for the crew, thereby reducing the silhouette of the tank, but also the cadence.
