After a stop in Tahiti, Bounty raised anchor in December 1787. On the way home, riots broke out on the ship. The reason was the overly strict discipline introduced by the captain after the good times in Tahiti. Dissatisfaction on board culminated in an open rebellion. Christian Fletcher took command of the ship and Captain Bligh, and 18 loyal sailors had to leave the ship in a boat on the high seas. After a dangerous 4,000-mile ride, Bligh and his men reached Timor Island; from where they went to England. Frigate Bounty returned to Tahiti, there, part of the crew remained in paradise. Fletcher settled on the island of Pitcairn with the rest of the sailors and settled there.
