The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-size automobile produced by Chevrolet in North America for the 1965 to 1996 model years. Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million units sold. It was the most popular car in the US in the 1960s and early 1970s, which included the Biscayne, Bel Air and Impala during its lifetime.
The 1987 models received minor styling changes: composite aerodynamic headlights replaced the previously sealed bulbs, and the hood ornament returned. The simulated woodgrain dashboard finish is back. The model range was slightly revised and now included the entry-level Caprice eight-seat estate and the Caprice Classic Brougham LS four-door sedan. "Stacked" trim level names: Caprice, Caprice Classic, Caprice Classic Brougham and Caprice Classic Brougham LS in ascending order of price and plushness.
The range of engines has undergone only minor changes. The 4.3 L V6 and 305 cu in V8 were updated with roller lifters and center bolt covers. The 305 cu in had a 5 hp (3.7 kW) power increase and was now rated at 127 kW in the Oldsmobile-built V8 remained unchanged and was the only engine available for the station wagon. Some Canadian-sold Chevrolet Caprice sedans used the 307 cu in Oldsmobile-built V8 instead of the Chevrolet-built 305 cu in engine during the 1987 model year.
