Original information:
The origin of the LVT can be traced to the Alligator, a civilian vehicle designed for rescue operations in marshy areas that could not be reached in any other way. LVT (Landing Vehicle, Tracked) has been an upgraded version of the first LVT-1 army model. The new Continental W670-9A engine, a M3A1 identical gearbox, a new suspension and an extra armor have been added.
